Foods that burn fat are often mentioned by the so-called weight loss gurus. But are there really foods that burn fat?
It sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? But in fact scientific studies prove that people who eat some foods end up losing more weight than those who do not eat those same foods - even when all other factors are keep the same!
So what exactly are these foods? Let's look at three of the more popular foods that "burn fat", according to the science studies:
Beans are a great source of protein for dieters everywhere. They contain a healthy mix of both carbohydrates and protein. Notably, beans are somewhat of a challenging to digest. Your body takes longer to process them. But this is a good thing, because it ensures that your blood sugar is kept stable during the time around a feeding, and it helps you stay full longer.
But the real power behind beans lies in their fiber content. Fiber is akin to a workout for your digestive system. Fiber helps to keep things running smoothly and, as mentioned above, it prevents your blood glucose level from spiking too high. The best choice is plain beans. Not so much the sugary baked beans, or the fatty refried beans that can sabotage your weight loss efforts by filling you up with too many calories and simple carbs.
Of all the foods that "burn fat", calcium is perhaps the most popular of the proven metabolism boosters. In fact, studies have shown that calcium can lead to weight loss. In one study, two groups were tested. The groups did everything identically, except that one of the groups also consumed several servings of calcium every day. As it turned out, that group lost almost three times as much body weight as the one that did not receive additional calcium.
Calcium can be got from vegetables like broccoli, but for most people dairy products remain the preferred choice for extra calcium. Try to stick to products made from 2 percent, 1 percent, or even fat-free milk. These deliver the largest amount of calcium with the least amount of calories.
Green tea has been widely promoted as a dieter's miracle product. It does contain powerful anti oxidants that reduce the quantity of potentially cancer causing free-radicals in the body. Its slight caffeine content works to perk up your heart rate and metabolism, but without adding undue stress on your body. It also acts as a mild diuretic, which can be useful if you need to get rid of excess built up fluid.
Green tea has been studied as a fat-burner, and so far the results have been encouraging. People who down 4 to 6 cups of green tea every day seem to enjoy faster weight loss than others who prefer not to drink green tea.
HONORABLE MENTION: WATER
OK, water does not contain any nutrition, but it should still rank highly on any list of foods that claim to burn fat. This is because it dilutes sodium in the body, which helps to beat bloating. It pushes retained fluid from our bodies, so as to promote healing, and it satisfies the appetite. Additionally water can also keep your metabolism running at maximum efficiency.
It's true: Our kidneys act as our primary filtration system. They help filter toxins and waste fluids out of our bodies. But they need lots of hydration to keep working properly. When deprived of water, the kidneys call upon the liver for help.
While your liver can function as a secondary filtration system, that is not its primary purpose. It is designed for, and works very well at, turning stored fat into expendable energy. But when it is required to support the kidneys, the liver cannot metabolize fat as fast as it normally would. Thus, you can help bring your metabolism back up to speed by making sure that you drink plenty of water each day.
For a fast and productive diet overhaul, incorporate these foods that "burn fat" into your diet. Add 6 to 8 glasses of pure drinking water each day, and you will be well on your way to successful and permanent weight loss.
